UPDATES FROM
DISTRICT GOVERNOR
KHONG CHOOI PENG DTM
March - April 06 |
This update complements
the email sent to all members on 20 April. The email high lighted
several very important issues needing all members' attention.
We
have exactly 70 days to 30 June when our performance for the year will
be assessed by World Headquarters. Seventy days is a good solid period
in which to clinch the achievements for which District 80 is well-known.
The pursuit of excellence and the sharing of success have become our
hallmark. I strongly urge you to turbo-charge your efforts as we enter
the final laps!
Let us review what our District
has focused on in March and April.
I. TOASTMASTERS AWARENESS
MONTHS
March and April were designated
Toastmasters Awareness Months in an attempt to share information with
members of the public. Divisions H and K as well as Division T were
encouraged to hold separate events.
In Singapore, a Press Release
was issued with a package containing details of Speech Contests, Speech
Crafts, and chapter meetings. A special demonstration meeting was also
conducted.
Macau had a very successful
series of events built around the visit of Lance Miller, current World
Champion of Public Speaking. Great public relations work resulted in a
live interview on TV and a press conference. Furthermore, there was a
workshop with more than 300 Macau university students in attendance, and
a seminar for a 100-strong audience. Well done, Macau TMC!
II. ANNUAL CONVENTION
[SINGAPORE 19 - 21 May]
Twenty-eight
days to this glorious event! If you haven't signed up, this would be the
moment to do it. The Organising Committee is really working very hard
indeed. They promise a sensational event and have even arranged for
fairies lend their magical support!
Important Point to Note:
All members of the District Council (or Proxy Holders) may attend the
District Council meeting on 19 May whether or not they are registered
for the Convention.
Exercise your rights and responsibilities. Ensure that our District will
benefit from the best leadership for the next term!

Heartiest congratulations to all our achievers! The list of names,

long to reprint. We share your pride in your personal achievements! We
still have quite a way to go to the finish line [see table below]. If
you are almost there, double ... no, treble ... your efforts. Aim for

We warmly welcome the following new members of our
District family. They are presented in the table below. We highly
commend everyone - sponsors, mentors, sponsoring clubs, and officers -
who were instrumental in their successful charter. Continue to guide
them as they embark on their exciting Toastmasters journey.
Our District now has a total of 14 new clubs. Several
more are on the way.
Do you have any leads you'd
like us to explore with you?
Give us a call. Let's work together on all
